The capital of India has a long and troubled history. A city which was destroyed and built 7 times. Each time Delhi was built, the rulers contributed largely to the architectural and cultural development of the city. Each ruler gave it a new name from the medieval period when it was called Indraprastha,Tughlakabad and Shahjahanabad were some of the other names Delhi was known of before the current avatar. Delhi is diverse in all its experiences and is broadly divided into 2 – Old Delhi & New Delhi. Old Delhi is congested having narrow lanes, Havelis and Bazaars as existed during the Mughal era and later during the British rule.

The famous Red Fort & Jama Masjid are located here and it is also home to the largest Spice market of Asia – Khari Baoli. Then there is the Lutyens Delhi, with large ornamental boulevards, now called the “Kartavya Path” but earlier known as Rajpath is located India Gate, a monument resurrected in the memory and as a tribute to the soldiers that made the supreme sacrifice. The Presidential Palace (Rashtrapati Bhavan) which was earlier called the Viceroy House is the official residence of the President of India and located at the Far end India Gate on Raisina Hill. Humayun’s Tomb is a fine example of Indian, Mughal architecture and a close copy of the Taj mahal. The other monuments of historical importance in New Delhi include the Qutub Minar – a victory minaret, Lotus Temple, Lodhi gardens.

With its rich past, Delhi’s cuisine too is diverse from the famous Chicken Tikka and Naan to butter chicken. Street foods of Paranthe Wali Gali to Bedwi with Aloo ki Sabzi and Delhi Ki Chaat are some of the more famous cuisines that one must indulge in if on a Delhi Trip. The temperature in Delhi is like the city, very diverse boiling hot summers and freezing winters. Even though Delhi is largely cosmopolitan, Hindi is the most spoken language.
